Concerts in Japan

In May 2011 The State Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra) will act with a series of concerts in Japan.

The previous tour of the glorified Russian collective in the Land of Rising Sun has taken place fourteen years ago when Orchestra was under control of Evgenie Svetlanov. Present visit becomes possible thanks to cooperation of orchestra with one of leading Japanese broadcasting companies - TBS. Ten concerts will pass from May, 15th till May, 31st in the largest concert halls of Tokyo (including in the Santori-hall), Osaka, Yokohama, Kanazawa, Fukuoka and Kobe under control of the art director and the main conductor of Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra - the national actor of Russia - Mark Gorenstein and the main invited conductor of collective Tomomi Nishimoto (Japan).

As soloists - the winners of the international competitions: russian cellist - Alexander Buzlov, the pianist from Croatia - Vedrana Kovac and the leader of cellos group in Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra - Paul Suss will act.

The programs consist from the diamonds of Russian music XIX-XX centuries: Symphony No. 5, Piano Concerto No. 1, Variations on Rococo Theme for cello and orchestra and Excerpts from incidental music to A. Ostrovsky's spring fairy tale "The Snow Maiden" by Petr Tchaikovsky, Selections from "Raymonda" by Alexander Glazunov, Symphony No. 2 by Sergey Rachmaninoff and Cello Concerto No. 1 by Dmitry Schostakovich.

According to words of Mark Gorenstein: «Realization of this tour is important right now during such heavy time for Japan. The debt of all people to help those who is in a trouble». On March, 29th of this year the State orchestra under control of the maestro has devoted the performance in the Tchaikovsky Concert hall in Moscow to memory of victims of earthquake and has listed the fee for a concert into the special account opened by Embassy of Japan in Russia.
