Vladimir Jurowski Conducts Rachmaninov

On 16 January 2016, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall will host a concert in the series “From the Moscow Philharmonic Society to the Philharmonic Societies of Russia: Saturday Afternoon Transmissions of Live Performances to the Concert Halls of the Philharmonic Societies of Russia.” On this all-Rachmaninov program are “Symphony No. 1,” and selected songs arranged for voice and orchestra by composer Vladimir Jurowski (1915-1972). The arrangements to be performed — “At My Window,” “Island,” “A Dream,” “How Fair This Spot,” and others — were created in the 1960s for the celebrated tenor Ivan Kozlovsky, who later recorded them.

Performers: Vsevolod Grivnov (tenor), and The State Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov” conducted by Vladimir Jurowski (grandson of the arranger named above).
