Vladimir Jurowski’s employment contract to be extended

On the 15th of October 2019 the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation informed that employment contract with the Artistic Director of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov” Vladimir Jurowski will be extended until the 1st of July, 2021.

Vladimir Jurowski became the Artistic Director of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov” on the 24th of October, 2011. In the year of 2018 the Orchestra performed 98 concerts, 60 of which took place in Russia. Besides, the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra is one of the leaders in extra-budgetary revenues among music organizations.

“In October 2019 it’s been eight years since the day of my appointment at the position of the Artistic Director of the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra. It has been the happiest and most fruitful time, full of co-creation and mutual understanding of the highest caliber. I’m grateful to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for full support of our initiatives, for sincere interest to our work” – said Vladimir Jurowski.

The Director reminded that during the eight years of his work as the Artistic Director of the Orchestra, many projects has been planned and realized: the concert cycle “Stories with the Orchestra”, concert tours in the cities of Russia and abroad, performances at “Another Space” Festival in Moscow, and the “Summer. Music. Museum” Festival in Istra, as well as opera and ballets concert performances, CDs recordings and many others.

“At the beginning of this season there was our meeting with the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky. We came to agreement to extend my work at the post of the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director”, – noted Vladimir Jurowski.

Vladimir Jurowski added that he is very glad to be leading the Orchestra team until the summer of 2021.

“The reason for my leaving the position in 2021 is the beginning of the new important period in my life: it is exactly the time when I am to take the position of Music Director at the Bavarian State Opera. Working at the Opera requires a lot of time and energy, however I sincerely hope that my creative bonds with the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra will not terminate, and that we will meet many times ahead in the concerts halls of Russia and other countries, realizing our collaborative ideas” – emphasized Vladimir Jurowski.
