Stories with the orchestra

For the eighth time the cycle of educational concerts "Stories with the orchestra" of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia "Evgeny Svetlanov", which takes place since 2013 year, is going to be opened in Moscow on June 27th, 2021. At various periods, conductors Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Alexander Lazarev, Mikhail Jurowski and Vasily Petrenko, actors Alla Demidova, Alexander Filippenko, Chulpan Khamatova, Maxim Sukhanov and Evgeny Tsyganov, violinists Vladimir Spivakov and Alena Baeva, pianists Mitsuko Uchida, Victoria Postnikova and Alexey Volodin, soprano Olga Peretyatko, bass Maxim Mikhailov, Vocal Ensemble Intrada, Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory, Borodin Quartet took part in the project. A wide range of topics covered in the programs of the cycle. In 2014, the concerts of the cycle were dedicated to the image of Prometheus and its reflection in art, in 2015 - to the 70th anniversary of the end of the World War II, in 2017 - to the work of great conductors of the past years.
 
Traditionally, the performance of musical pieces alternates with conductor’s commentaries: this time, all concerts will be conducted by the Artistic Director of the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra – Vladimir Jurowski.
 
The programs of the cycle will include such musical pieces as Cello Concerto by Nikolai Myaskovsky (soloist - Alexander Ramm) and Symphony № 5 by Sergei Prokofiev; one of the programs, that is dedicated to the theme of childhood in music, will contain Children's Symphony by Joseph Haydn, Sleigh Ride by Leopold Mozart and Symphony № 4 by Gustav Mahler (soloist - soprano Nadezhda Gulitskaya);  the concert named as "Man and Nature" will feature Brett Dean's Pastoral Symphony, Jean-Fery Rebel's «The Elements» and Symphony № 6 by Ludwig van Beethoven; the last night of the cycle is dedicated to the anniversary of the composer Gennady Gladkov (soloists - violinist Sergei Girshenko, tenor Maxim Paster, baritones Ivan Vikulov and Pavel Ivanov, soprano Natalya Melnik and tenor Dmitry Nikanorov).
 
The concerts of the cycle will be held at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on June 27, 28 and 30 and July 1, 2021. The beginning of the concerts is at 19.00.
