The letter of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Russia

On March 29, 2011 at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra) headed by the conductor Mark Gorenstein had a performance in memory of earthquake victims in Japan. The honorarium of the orchestra for the performance was transferred to the special account opened by the Embassy of Japan in Russia. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Russia Masaharu Kono addressed the State Orchestra with the following letter:

"Let me thank you for your kind words of support that you expressed about the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Our people have suffered from the disaster, but your message gave us courage.

On March 11, 2011 Japan faced an unprecedented massive earthquake and tsunami. During the press conference, Prime Minister N. Kahn said to the Japanese people that it was "the most serious crisis for all 65 years after the war." Now the Government and people of Japan are making every effort to overcome this crisis.

Let me express gratitude for the fact that immediately after the earthquake, the Government and people of Russia have expressed support and provided assistance. Japan has a long and difficult path to go through: to save human lives and rebuilt the regions which have been destroyed. We will overcome the consequences of the disaster, with your help and support. I will continue to exert all efforts in further developing the Japanese-Russian friendly relations and cooperation.

I want to thank you once again for the sincere condolences. I wish you health and happiness."
