The State Orchestra named “Orchestra of the Year”, Vladmir Jurowski named “Person of the Year”
The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov” has been named “Orchestra of the Year” and the orchestra’s Artistic Director, Vladimir Jurowski, has been named “Person of the Year” by the newspaper “Muzykalnoye Obozreniye” (Music Review) for 2014.
“A music intellectual and educator, Jurowski, in the three years of his leadership, has re-established the orchestra to the country’s number one position which it occupied during the tenure of E. F. Svetlanov. He offers to the group a deeply thought-out repertory policy and creative programming ideas. The programs and projects of the orchestra in recent years are marked by freshness, originality, and a wide range of epochs and styles — from Schütz’s motets to Gladkov’s ‘The Ordinary Miracle.’”
